About Us

CHAT (Churches Housing Action Team) was founded by Christians who were concerned by the large number of people experiencing housing difficulty in Mid Devon.

We believe that everyone is entitled to decent, secure and affordable housing – somewhere to call home.

Here’s an example of how CHAT teams work together to bring hope:
A client came in to the Crediton outreach and spoke to Tenancy Support worker, Helen. It soon became clear that the housing needs were urgent and our Housing Advice workers became involved. With help in court from another agency the client's eviction has been delayed, against all the odds. Once the tenancy has been secured, Helen will offer help for the future. There is obviously much more to this story than we can share, but it really is very good news and there is hope of another life being turned around: CHAT – bringing hope.

The food store has some interesting shortages...
We need tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits, all in small packages/jars.
Tinned and packet potatoes, and tinned veg are getting low.
Shampoo has been well used too and stocks are low.
Things are still much better than they were, so thank you for your fabulous support.

Due to staff holidays over the summer we have decided to restrict our Food Store hours.
If you come in with a voucher from another agency you need to do so between 10am - 12noon or 2pm - 4pm. We are being very strict about this and recently had to turn away someone who came in 3 minutes after 4pm.
Our food store is an important service for our community, but is not the main reason CHAT is in Mid Devon and we need to prioritise housing issues. Thank you for your understanding.
