Early Support, Lasting Impact
Denise, CHAT Advice Services Manager, shares why early support makes such a difference for people facing money worries and housing insecurity:

Why does early support matter so much?
“At CHAT, we help people build financial resilience before their situation spirals. When someone reaches out early, we can check they are receiving the right benefits, help reduce essential bills and support them to balance their income and outgoings. Without that support, money worries can quickly escalate, affecting both debt levels and mental wellbeing. Problems may feel overwhelming, but when we tackle them step by step, they become manageable.”

How are money worries linked to housing insecurity?
“We see many people at real risk of homelessness because of high housing and living costs. Often, they have no savings and feel they’ve run out of options. It’s common for people to prioritise credit repayments over rent or utilities because they feel they have no other choice, but this can quickly lead to serious consequences for their housing situation. Early advice can prevent that crisis point.”

What changes when someone gets help at the right time?
“When someone reaches out early, it can completely change their outcome. We can help them access financial support, review their budget and prevent debt from spiralling. Instead of watching their situation worsen, they regain stability and begin looking ahead with confidence. It takes courage to ask for help, but the sooner someone does, the simpler and more effective the support can be.”
